Crack finds his way into the most precarious of places. Disrupting order. Revealing the unknown. Perhaps the forgotten. Or what may have been buried by frightened hands.
Crack. The paint on the wall. The concrete below. The sun through the clouds.
Crack. The cereal responds to the flood of milk. The glass reacts to boiling water. The oak tree shivers at the sound of the thunder.
Crack. The shell comes open giving way to the acorn. The knuckles wail out a sigh of relief. The egg oozes beyond its temporary home. The fault line emerges from the hidden depths.
Though crack is a stakeholder in the visible market, he also cracks into what is not seen. A dreary brain under the pressure of the examination. The restless basketball player at the free throw line. A crack may happen when emotions are triggered. Or when left in solitude. Crack is the body’s response to a limit breached. The internal levee that says “enough.”
Crack is a loudmouth. Even when the ear cannot hear him. Crack may be reckless. But may also maneuver with steadfast intention.
Most cracks will break through the prison walls. Despite the trained guards who are positioned to stop them. Or advanced technology. Or proactive planning. Or wishful thinking.
For the crack will eventually run out into the open field. Often dirty and out of breath. Wiping away sweat and picking up speed. Begging to be seen and heard and felt. Yearning for a companion to examine the prison beneath. Seeking a soul who will respond with gentle compassion. Amen.
