Determined is the woodpecker without regard to the size of her tree. She pecks away. From the bitter cold of sunrise. To the howls of the midnight winds.
Determined is aware of her limitations. But presses on nonetheless. As she leans into her inherent power. While harnessing strength beyond belief. She is cognizant of her fear and uncertainty. But refuses to be overwhelmed by either.
To the frustration of her critics, determined remains steadfast. She skillfully avoids flaming arrows and gingerly prances over sinking sand. Determined acknowledges nay-sayers. But does not allow nays to penetrate her flesh.
Determined cannot be fooled by the expectations of her society. She pays no mind to the handicappers in the desert. Determined does not associate with phrases like “against the odds” or “a cold day in hell.” She will not succumb to the masses. And let the status quo guide her life.
Determined does not see rest as a pitfall. But has the maturity to be endured by Sabbath. She maintains a timely cadence. Pauses when her body alerts. And resumes when invited by her maker.
For determined knows there are other peckers in the woods. Faithfully nipping alongside in rhythm. Some have introduced themselves. But many remain anonymous and out of sight. Some are of the same era. While countless others have come before her. Determined can still hear the echo of their impact. She uses them for nourishment and oasis. Knowing she may provide food for the generations to come.
