Glass maintains a delicate boundary between here and there. Offering a preview of what’s to come.
Some glass expresses an elegant point of entry. Displaying possibility and promise. Revealing the other side. Both clear and mysterious. She does not always provide a way through. If conceived in this way, glass may serve as a barrier. Taunting and flaunting. Teasing. And giving the perception that what she discloses is attainable. Even though that reality may not exist.
With proper guidance, glass may come to life with thin makeup. Or manufactured to be thick. She may be constructed as rigid. Or be made to be flexible. With the right influence, her colors may change. Perhaps stained and pieced together to frame a powerful story. Glass can be mass-produced. Or be the fruit of a more delicate environment.
Glass is malleable in her endeavors. She can rest in a pair of frames. And help to sharpen the world. She may also contain an arrangement of hand-picked flowers. To offer an apology. Or just a smile. Glass sometimes hangs from the ceiling of a boutique hotel. As delicate artwork pointing to sophistication and class. On many occasions, glass fills out a window frame. Or shelters a school of fish. Or allows sunlight to shine down into an otherwise dark foyer.
When exposed, glass is vulnerable to the effects of the world. The smudge of fingertips pushing open the door. The splatter of water while washing a face. Lipstick that lingers after a refreshing sip. Winged creatures that come to a sudden rest on the windshield. She may experience dullness from enduring sunlight. Or dust in areas of neglect.
To some, this confession speaks of glass and glass alone. Others may wonder the impact of a body on a soul. Amen.
